History of the Deming Prize
- 1951

Deming Prize Committee was established.

Dr. W. E. Deming presided over the Honorary Chairman of the Deming Prize Committee.
Ichiro Ishikawa became the first chairman of the Deming Prize Committee.
Deming Prize (the Deming Prize for Individuals) and Deming Application Prize were established.
The first Deming Prize Award Ceremony was held on September 22, 1951. - 1954
- Nikkei QC Literature Prize (selection of the prize was commissioned to the Deming Prize Committee) was established.
- 1957
- Deming Application Prize for Small Companies was established.
- 1970
- Japan Quality Medal was established in commemoration of the International Conference on Quality held in Tokyo for the first time in the world.
- 1972
- Quality Control Award for Operations Business Units was established.
- 1984
- Regulations for Deming Application Prize and Quality Control Award for Operations Business Units were formulated and to accept applications to Deming Application Prize from organizations overseas was approved (Acceptance started from the following year).
- 1989
- Florida Power & Light Company from the United States became the first foreign company to win Deming Application Prize.
- 1994
- To accept applications to Japan Quality Medal from organizations overseas was approved (Acceptance started from the following year).
- 1995
- Deming Application Prize for Small Companies and Deming Application Prize for Divisions were abolished and integrated into Deming Application Prize.
- 1996
- To accept applications to the Quality Control Award for Operations Business Units from organizations overseas was approved (Acceptance started from the following year).
- 1997
- Philips Taiwan Ltd. from Taiwan became the first foreign company to win Japan Quality Medal.
- 1999
- Expression of Total Quality Control (TQC) was revised to be called as Total Quality Management (TQM) in the regulation.
- 1999
- Eligibility to apply for Japan Quality Medal was changed and organizations that won Deming Application Prize or Japan Quality Medal became eligible to apply for the Medal in 3 years after the winning instead of 5 years.
- 2000
- The 50th anniversary of the Deming Prize establishment.
- 2007
- Deming Prize Steering Committee was established.
- 2010
- The 60th anniversary of the Deming Prize establishment.
- Quality Control Award for Operations Business Units was integrated into Deming Application Prize. Application eligibility to Deming Application Prize was revised.
- 2012

Deming Application Prize renewed its name as Deming Prize.
Japan Quality Medal renewed its name as Deming Grand Prize.
